Addressing Racism/Anti-LGBTQ Speech on Off-Platform Media
-
@D so then the solution is to use a lighter hand on off-platform speech, only punishing clear targeted harassment
-
@vibeisveryo but off-platform speech that is truly hurtful should be punished, which it is not rn
-
@vibeisveryo There is a leave server and block button on discord. As far as harassment I think there is a line between what RGL should step in and shouldnt step in for.
-
@Ampy really comparing pedophilia to saying not nice words :??? LOOOL
-
@Kawaiyi I like how you are just blatantly ignoring the points in this thread to make broad, general statements and virtue signal

@toast yeah sure that’s fair, but rgl should consider off-platform stuff which they straight up don’t.
-
@Papaya said in Addressing Racism/Anti-LGBTQ Speech on Off-Platform Media:
RGL is a TF2 league, not a social forum.
-
@vibeisveryo basically, anything in game and anything between leaders organizing matches, any toxicity of any kind should be penalized, not restricted to racism, although increasing severity based on those offenses it totally understandable, in my opinion, preferred
-
@Kawaiyi hate speech is free speech and also being able to play a video game in a league isn’t a platform
-
@vibeisveryo No I dont think it should. Harassment is much worse than hearing bad words from people. Im not sure what you define as harassment but any sort of doxing etc. is what I would say is justified for a report/punishment. Does that make sense? Like yeah words hurt. But in my opinion I wouldnt wanna see rgl stepping in for that. Pedophilia and stuff like that which is blatantly against the law. By all means step in.
-
@D but then as i said team servers/pug servers exist in the periphery of the league and actions there can still cause people in the league to be hurt or leave the league. so if someone bullies someone in a team server to the point of depressive thoughts, self harm, or suicide, surely you don’t believe that just because it’s not in RGL.gg #serious-discussions, that it shouldn’t be punished by the league? because that’s what i mean by targeted harassment
-
I can’t believe the lengths you guys will go to defend your “right” to say the n word.
-
@Kawaiyi 1. It is a right
2. We are defending our right to have privacy in our own private groups and not have rgl overstep it’s boundaries -
@toast so i don’t think someone should be banned for just saying a soft-a in a team server, as part of the lighter, more discretionary hand rgl should use on such platforms. but if someone is being seriously bullied or excluded because of who they are, it should be treated as bannable
-
@Kawaiyi players are already punished for saying slurs on rgl platforms. The argument is that people should not be policed over what they say on private platforms.
Using the most extreme example of how someone can abuse the fact that they cannot be punished for mostly saying whatever they want on a private platform isn’t an argument. As edgy as the subsection of the tf2 community can be in their own time, you would be surprised to know that most people are actually not anti-lgbt, racist, ect. It’s either a dark sense of humor or edgy teenagers attempting to get a reaction out of people. You might not think it’s funny, which is fair. It’s completely normal, even if you think both those types of people are immature. When you place restrictions like this, people are gonna be afraid of saying anything at all in their own private platforms.
I understand where people are coming from when they cite the most extreme and rare example of the type of people we could potentially punish if the admins were able to police outside of rgl platforms. Ultimately their intentions are misguided and only lead to a system that can become abused, create an even more strict environment than has to be, and overall hurts more people than helps.

@vibeisveryo Case by case possibly. But still the same issue comes along which is where is the line? You can always block/remove yourself from the situation.

@Kastaling MANS WOKE UP SPEAKING FAXX
-
@Kawaiyi oh god I just love ad hominem I just love insulting someone’s character rather than actually refuting their argument hrnggg
