Addressing Racism/Anti-LGBTQ Speech on Off-Platform Media
-
@Kawaiyi i understand this to an extent but in the context of what everyone else is saying, this is like saying you’re associated with nestle because you’ve drank bottled water. again, obviously, toxic environments can and should be punished, but you’re saying that monitoring conduct in environments where all parties know its just edgy humor should result in being shunned by a community. nobody gets mad at internet providers for letting all these actual racists and homophobic come online and spew genuine hatred, its because its what they do on their own time.
-
@Kawaiyi i never said that what i mean is that there are things in this community that despite being bad are just things that happen u cant really stop toxicty it sucks i wish u could but if try to police a whole community people wont want to play in communites like csgo or some of these newer games its alot easy to due the fact they are more newer an not as devolped as a community as tf2 is its like banning a taunt cause it has a racist background theres no point people will still use it cause its in the game
-
@Papaya Your should be held accountable for actions outside of an organization, this happens in all professional enviroments.
-
@Kawaiyi It happens when those actions occur on a public forum such as twitter, not when those actions occur in private.
-
@Kawaiyi Yes, it’s called cancel culture and it’s viewed as a problem.
-
@Kawaiyi just no. Read everything said above. There are so many good points about why this is a stupid idea. RGL should not take into consideration things you do outside of the league.
-
@Papaya So if you do shitty things in private and someone finds out you shouldn’t be held accountable because it was in private because you’re too afraid to be racist in public because you know that’s absurd.
-
@Kawaiyi Exactly. What happens in private stays in private, and RGL has no right to police what happens in private. Remember, RGL is a TF2 league, not a social forum. What you are doing in private has nothing to do with matches and scrims.
-
more than stopping addressing actual racists and homophobes, this just seems like it can be exploited to getting someone in trouble for something that never effected the only thing we can all come together and agree is the most important factor; the gameplay.
-
@Kawaiyi No, you shouldnt. The things I do with MY friends should be of no interest to RGL or anyone here. It isnt the leagues job to send a investigation of something that happened off of an RGL platform. That is a waste of time, money, and manpower. Ridiculous you even suggested that.
-
@Kawaiyi your blanket statements are exactly why this is gonna be a controversial policy. if you do something edgy in privacy you’re “too afraid to be racist in public”
its just gonna do nothing but get unfunny people in trouble, rather than root out actual problematic people -
Glad to know that being racist is totally normal again. I guess perpetuating racism is just what RGL is about now.
-
also the people comparing tf2 to like csgo or overwatch is not the best due to my statement compare it more to older games (speedruning old games, smash melee, MW2, halo ect) cause they are already so developed theres small things in the community if u say u cant do them or take them out some of the fun is removed
-
Don’t ban me for what I say to my friends pls
-
@D Anti-racism shouldn’t be considered controversial.
-
@Kawaiyi RGL does a great job of stopping racism on THEIR platforms which I think everyone here supports mostly. But the simple fact is that its not even just racism why people dont want RGL taking action over outside actions. Its about privacy. Once again, that is a waste of time, money, and manpower for the league. We dont need league staff going around investigating what is going on with private discords. It’s just ridiculous. You have zero control of what anyone says outside of the league and that is how it should be. You are wanting RGL to take more control of its community and frankly that is a stupid idea.
-
@Papaya You’re literally on the forums right now. What??
-
Demonizing people you disagree with and using angry words is not a good response to being demonized by people you disagree with who are using angry words.
I think RGL has already found a good balance for this rule based on survey results.
-
@toast i mean it would be insane to claim team servers, pug servers, etc. do not exist in periphery to the rgl community and actions therein would not make players unwelcome in rgl as a whole. so acts of targeted harassment should still be punished there
-
@Kawaiyi and it isnt, its gonna be controversial because its just gonna get idiots making edgy jokes in trouble more often than actual racists. i mean racists arent these mysterious psychopaths who pretend to be like you or me, like, they’re racist. they like to be around other ignorant people. why would this be the community they wanna bump shoulders with? its pretty diverse, isnt it? how many closeted racists could this really weed out?
it seems like you’re purposely ignoring this point but its just gonna have dumb jokes get people in trouble, all im trying to say
