Addressing Racism/Anti-LGBTQ Speech on Off-Platform Media

Regarding faked chat logs, there are ways to show a chat is real. You can record yourself opening Discord to show that the text has not been tampered with

@hew hey you know what else isn’t required? you typing that post. I personally do not like what you typed to I am going to do everything in my power to get you banned for typing something I don’t like. Thanks and have a good day.
-
@hew I agree but no need for the ad hominem attack lol
-
@lucki So do you think RGL is gonna ban someone off a screenshot of them saying the N word?
-
@Kawaiyi That’s like saying a student should be suspended from school because they said slurs while playing basketball with a bunch of other kids in their backyard.

@sigafoo praise the lord for we are saved

@Kastaling yikes. saved so y’all can say hate speech in private?
-
@sigafoo all most of us wanted, sounds good
-
@hedaeoh yes. Hate speech is free speech
-
@Xenagos No, and that is my point
-
@sigafoo This is the way.

Rather than trying to get RGL to moderate our private interactions to create a more welcoming community, we as individuals can take that initiative much more effectively. If someone is creating a toxic environment via slurs or any kind of harassment, you can make an impact by boycotting them and their servers and creating your own welcoming alternative. Create your own teams or join with like minded leaders to ensure that your teammates are inclusive. Create or moderate pug servers that require the standards you believe are necessary. Rather than expanding the scope of RGL to non-affiliated servers, make those non-affiliated areas welcoming yourself. An RGL ban is unlikely to make people realize how their behavior affects people and change their ways. We are all familiar with people who defend and double down on their actions after bans and become worse. Ostracizing them from pugs and teams makes bad behavior outside of RGL a burden, forcing offenders to change their ways or be left out of the community. You as an individual have the power to decide who you do and don’t associate with, use it! Discord makes it very easy to run a team or a pug group, and most players appreciate not having to deal with racism and toxicity.

I take full responsibility for this absolutely time wasting circle jerk of a “discussion”

@lucki That’s my point too. Even if this was put in place (which it won’t be) It’s not like RGL would be handing out perma bans to anyone they get some screenshot of saying the N word.
-
@Kawaiyi your understanding of the very topic you’re talking about

@sigafoo said in Addressing Racism/Anti-LGBTQ Speech on Off-Platform Media:
Just to put this on the record.
RGL has ZERO INTEREST in ever policing slur usage in private team discords or anything of the like.
I understand why people bring this up, I think racism and bigotry hurt communities and push people away. However, extending oversight to that level is not something we’ve ever wanted or have any interest in.
We’re locking the thread, as I believe after about 450 posts we’ve run the course of conversation.
