Harassment in the RGL Community
-
there is absolutely zero excuse or justification for harassment
-
Some people in this community clearly need to take breaks from the internet to realize that certain things just aren’t okay and not socially accepted in the real world for a reason.
Going out of your way to harass and bully people? Kinda weird man, do something better with your time.
@Kastaling
It would be nice if slurs didn’t have power over people in general, but people continue to let them hold power of themselves.
Yeah it would be nice if words didnt hold such power, but this is real life. Some words have bad history to them and thus hold power. Which means you shouldn’t go around saying those words.
Honestly the extent to which some people will go out of their way to dig up information on a person just to put them down and insult them is creepy and weird. Like seriously, get a life lmao.

idk man ive had my full name and various social medias out there for a pretty long time, have been toxic, am known for being Not Good, and nobodys ever made a video about my “gameplay”
maybe i need to reject a cheater incel and then thatll do the trick -
The amount of harassment and what you actions you receive it for for is also going to be dependent on how much you ingratiate yourself with the sorts of individuals who typically end up doing said harassment as well as the people you surround yourself with. Which is not exactly a great strategy when it comes to the long term growth of yourself nor the community.
-
as someone who has spent time around some of the people doing the harassing, i have been harassed far less than the many people who do their best to distance themselves from harassers

@Bliztank Pretty much what I’m saying. If you don’t be around it in the first place it won’t happen - and as I said in a previous comment, take it on the chin and just keep away from it if you don’t want this to happen to you. RGL is NOT politics, everyone is going to have a different opinion on the story and some like to see what the other side has to say instead of instantly feeling bad for the victim . We can’t make any full on decisions with just one source, innocent until proven guilty is a thing.

@Benjy52 no

@mondragon i am talking to the people who are saying just dont associate with those people and they wont bother you

This is on it’s face ridiculous. People who decide to harass someone might not care about distance. Sometimes it might help, but that doesn’t mean it always well. If people are going out of there way to find old social media posts and make videos, this suggests the people are fairly dedicated, and even if you don’t talk to them, they’re still invested in continuing this.
People who do this sort of thing might not target their friends, but if you have a falling out then there’s no protection there. Association nor distance doesn’t guarantee safety, but telling yourself you’re safe because you don’t associate with certain people can be a great way of ignoring the issue.
As far as both sides/innocent until proven guilty: rona didn’t name any names in her post. She didn’t specifically accuse anyone. I also do not think there is a reasonable justification for dragging tf2 stuff to body shaming. What someone looks like should not matter, and anyone doing that is firmly on the wrong side of things. Harassment, racism, sexism, and toxicity should not be welcome at all.
People should be able to exist in the tf2 community without being mocked and hated on for the gender and appearance, full stop.

I’m seeing a lot of victim-blaming in this thread. jsyk that’s exactly the sort of mentality that allows harassment and other similar behavior to continue. Literally only makes things worse.
-
because i’m sure there’s never a case of someone minding their own business who get harassed. surely they all did something, that means they deserve it
-
No matter what you do to try and protect yourself there is still a chance. Also why should she be the one to change instead of the harassers. Its a lot easier to not harass people than it is to avoid large sections of the community.

The whole point of this thread is not to call anyone in specific out-It’s really for the entire community. The problem that I am seeing is that people either are:
a) Unwilling to acknowledge that things can go too far
b) Completely blindsided from the fact that the community has major problems
c) Victim blaming others
d) Saying that harassment is a chain reaction that usually starts somewhereAll I want to say is own up to your mistakes. No one on this planet is a perfect human being, but we all can try to be better for each other so that everything can be a little easier.
