BAN THE LOCH
-
please god i’m sick of casting teams losing objs because someone catches 2 blind pipes moving at .8c
-
ban that shit,
-
please @rgl
-
please ban this unfun garbage its so unfun to play vs and most demos dont even enjoy using it because it feels really boring to just lob pipes blindly from across the map until someone catches them and explodes
-
-
i hate using loch n load ready to see it banned so i dont have to use it ever again
-
no australium version of the good player weapon
-rep -
i like how this weapon is being asked to be banned not because its op but because its “annoying”, i sure love the competitive community for their open minds. Keep it up guys
-
yesod ur right it IS annoying, thats why i would like it to be banned
-
yesod It’s both OP and annoying. Being able to negate most of demos weaknesses is insane, especially since he’s already one of the strongest classes in highlander. Honestly, it should’ve been banned sooner imo.
-
Just dodge.
-
yesod it gives the demoman ridiculous range, the pipes are nearly impossible to reflect, and it forces the other demo to run it or be at an insane disadvantage
its oppressive, annoying, and the optics of banning weapons really dont phase me because it seems rgl doesnt market their league to new players anyways (this is a thread on its own tbh), and typically newer players are the only ones that care
-
Does anybody in invite want it not banned, I have not heard any dissent but obviously I’m limited to my own circlejerk.

im gonna go ahead and guess that u were not around during scorch shot times

Giving the best mid range class in the game a weapon that makes every range child’s play is kinda busted tbh. Piping snipers on rock from deep valley on product or making a scout v demo a hitscan v hitscan fight is way too broad a of spectrum for 1 weapon to cover.
Also, if you think it’s impossible to reflect that’s a skill issue.
-
The shortage of demoman players is already the limiting factor on team creation across most of the league, so maybe it would be healthier to avoid rule changes that make that class even harder.

And if your standard for banning something is that it’s “annoying and oppressive”, then we need to address the real elephant in the room and ban the sniper class, since so much of HL’s meta revolves around this one class being the only one who can do anything at long range. And then let’s get rid of pyro, since the airblast mechanic is annoying to play against and forces the other team to also run it. Engineer, too. Who ever claimed that wrangled minisentries aren’t annoying? Heavy just slows the game down, take him out as well.
But at that point the maps would be too empty, so let’s also add a second scout and soldier on each team to fill things out. Then we can rest easy, after finally fixing highlander.

Iso iso mate i love u but this take sucks
-
i always appreciate the main highlander masterminds speaking out on topics of what’s fair and what’s not, i am sure people utilize the weapons to their maximum potential the same way they do in adv/inv
it’s a weapon i think is fine in sixes since a lot of the time you can come wide and give yourself the space to move around and dodge the pipes coming your way. 6s also has the most mobile classes in the game so hitting the loch pipes isn’t extremely easy since you can’t just spam a single angle the entire game knowing that eventually it is going to land and hit someone for -100.
in highlander, just the sheer presence of the sniper on the map blocks off a lot of the mobility and dynamic gameplay that 6s provides. the prime example i could use would be product, where if a sniper is present and posted up locking down that area from either rock or china, you would have to essentially hug the wall of the cliff alongside the rest of your combo to contest the sightline with minimum risk of getting your head blown.
since the way you move around the map in hl is so much more restricted, the loch and load becomes significantly stronger. a demoman experienced with spam angles could pre-aim the same angle as the team is walking down and hit the blind spam across the map, while literally never having to directly contest the combo head on. in a theoretical scenario where i want to dodge the loch blind spam as a medic while also having a sniper pin me down in an area, i would have to completely neglect the sniper sightline to dodge the pipe, which is a lose-lose scenario since competing vs the best of the best on sniper, over peeking the sightline even for a slight bit could result in dying. alternatively, when i avoid the sniper sightline, i am putting myself at risk of getting hit with the loch pipe that i am unable to dodge due to limited space. also, due to the presence of the sniper on the map, in the scenarios where the sniper is alive and a team is actively looking to play out of sniper sightlines, teams end up bunching up in areas that block off most sightlines, forming a literal blob susceptible to any spam.
the second problem of loch and load in hl comes to the fact that there are more slower classes present on the map. scout is a class that would be able to avoid the loch spam relatively consistently, being the fastest class in the game with an ability to double jump making them avoid spam even better. the same could not be said about the hl specific classes such as engineer/heavy/pyro, since even if they do see the blind spam coming their way they aren’t afforded the same mobility as scouts are to move out of the spam angles. since hl teams naturally group up in areas, avoiding the sniper sightlines, the blind loch and load spam becomes ten times as strong. the invite hl grands were the perfect showcase of those grouped areas that were being mindlessly spammed, resulting in either relatively free and easy kills or significant amounts of damage being dealt.
so it’s not just “annoying to deal with”, it completely alters the approach at which you have to take any fights, making it both unfun and unhealthy

if any demo quits hl over the loch ban i will actually giggle my ass off

My brother in christ most demo players in invite are the ones wanting it gone lmao. Such a strange assumption that easier = more desirable, surely if you thought about that for more than 2 seconds you would realize how insane of a take that is.

You are arguing against the voices in your head and losing.

katz I never claimed to be good at the game, lol. Was playing devil’s advocate to try and hear a better reason justifying the loch being OP instead of just vaguely unfun.
Your post was well-written and makes a good point, though. Thank you. -
Iso the comment was less directed towards you directly and more so a general frustration with the people claiming loch is perfectly fine while never having to deal with it being used by the best demomen in the hl scene. it is usually easy to notice who had to play against good demos running loch and who has not had to by their opinion on that weapon. i do apologize if my post came off as a direct insult, that was not the intent of it
