Advanced is a joke

@Constantly understandable.

@Constantly took me one minute to notice that your list makes no sense as it would move down the team that won the division below last season and the runner up
-
@davyc ??? The winner of Advanced last season isn’t competing this season. I believe it was :3 esports which disbanded and then half the roster merged with nukroo–which then died. Only the 1st place team is guaranteed a move up–and that’s how it should be. In a division with limited slots, runner-up teams shouldn’t be guaranteed a slot in a higher division just because they’re a runner-up, especially if a full set of stronger teams form. With my theoretical list, it would have still potentially given them a slot through qualifiers if they could earn it.
-
I understand why davy would think this but in all the grand scheme of things, Constantly is correct. The runner ups lost the grand finals so while that does mean they are good, it does not mean they are guaranteed the a move-up. I am one of team leaders of the runner up team of adv and I believe that this is how it should be.

@Constantly I’m pretty sure the team davy is talking about is Zipf’s Law, who won Main last season and wasn’t on the list.
-
old main = new low main
this cannot be that hard

ok yeah, Main winners and Main runner-ups from when Challenger was a thing shouldn’t be moved up for free. That’s like saying when Challenger was a thing that main winners should be able to skip advanced and immediately go to Challenger. The Main division winners from last season will play in a division with the same name, but this time with other players around the same skill level–which will be more difficult.
Again, my list is just a theoretical on how Advanced should have been. I listed 7 teams that stood out as the top teams underneath Invite and gave a suggestion on which teams deserve an opportunity to fill that 8th slot, with three out of the four qualifier teams moving down and being competitive with each other to compete for top Main while it has a high skill ceiling.
Ultimately though, that’s not what’s happening. We will be seeing a 14 team Advanced, absorbing what would have been the higher end of Main. It’s a bit late to fix these sort of issues for this season–but I hope some adjustments can be made for season 11. -
@dlphn top old main = new high main, mid old main = new low main, there was a huge skill gap last season
-
@Constantly imo a team should be moved up if they beat every challenge put in front of them. We shouldn’t essentially penalize a team for getting unlucky enough to win main the “wrong season,” I think that hurts the spirit of competition. If you win a div, you should be rewarded for it, it’s a really big accomplishment, and many teams live based on the assumed knowledge that they will be moved up at the end of the season because they won the div.
-
there are skill gaps in every division lol why is this an issue
-
where am I
-
@watterson the gap between a few of the teams is like the new york yankees against a little league team, its bad
-
-
round robin is of course the superior format. i think there is some benefit for it to be restricted to only the top division as this encourages people on the fringes of invite to go up instead of down
-
yes having a bigger advanced results in a larger skill gap in advanced. having a smaller advanced would result in a larger skill gap in main. changing the division size (unless you add a division which is clearly off the table with the removal of challenger; a whole different issue) just pushes the problem onto someone else

this is kind of silly. nobody is saying that the team that won advanced last season should get an automatic spot in invite even though there isn’t another division they could go to, they would be placed in current advanced. just because a division has the same name does not really mean it’s the same division
-
i think it’s kind of nice to give teams a shot at the division directly below invite if they want it simply because they automatically qualify for the division if they win. this gives some legitimacy to the name “invite”

@rj well i’m not really saying that either, here’s my line of thought: the winner of advanced this past season (17th place overall) won the right to play with teams 9-16 in terms of ranking. Teams 9-16 are what advanced would be if it were RR.
The winner of Main last season (29th overall) won the right to play with teams 17-28.
The breakdown of divs this season:
1-8 Invite
9-22 Advanced
23-43 MainBased on those numbers, I’d say the Main winner fits better in with Advanced than Main, and as I said, I think they should be rewarded for their achievement of winning main. At the very least, they’re right halfway between the two divs and I think winning main is a good tiebreaker for that.
If we’re talking about an 8 team Advanced with no Challenger, then yeah that’s a harder thing to argue, and that’s not what I was really arguing for in the first place. If we’re talking about an ideal situation, then we should have 8 teams each for Invite, Challenger, and Advanced.
You could argue that you could put the Main winners in the Advanced qualifier if it was RR, but the breakdown of teams would be:
1-8 Invite
9-16 Advanced
17-32? MainAnd based on my reasoning above, you can see that essentially main at that point would become all of S9 Advanced, plus some playoff main teams, which in terms of field of opponents is an undeniable upgrade from playing teams 29-42 like they did in S9 Main.
edit: guess i didn’t really explain myself well the first time around lmao. But yeah, in my mind getting moved up a div is more about the quality of opposition you play vs. the name of the div.

@WiLLmaTiC Can we expect survey results to be released soon or can we have an eta? I think it’s important that players can see this info especially earlier on in the season
-
wait this div sucks

yea bro, I wonder if the people voted to keep adv RR
Wait, no I fucking don’t. I know what the results are and I know the people are very much in favor of having advanced be RR, regardless of the existence of Challenger. Willmatic won’t release the results because it looks dogshit on him.
Like do you want me to leak the survey results in private discords to make things 10x worse? I can’t post them on the forums (see: This Post Has Been Deleted!), and I really don’t want to have it spread through non-rgl platforms, so here’s ur Official Countdown Clock. Do the right thing.
You have 24 hours.
