@Adam To continue off what @Micahlele said; I am not a HL admin or mod. I do not have any say in what they do. The only power I have exists within these forums as an RGL platform.
RR Advanced is back. Glad to see it.
Since it has been brought up a few times, and I believe is also one of the original points and reasons for the creation of this thread:
The goal of these forums exist for me in the form of the Mission Statement that you can find on the rules tab.
The idea with the forums is to create an open space where constructive conversations, discussions, feedback, and ideas can be shared.
My hope is that these forums become the main platform for people to publicly discuss anything they feel is important. Regardless if those ideas are sound.
Part of that is encouraging users to make threads like these on the forums because posting things in the discord is pointless when it gets buried a few hours later and to be quite frank, the admins basically never see them because of it.
I am also trying to ensure that these forums do not turn into an echo chamber like many private discords which are there to only push a narrative.
My last main goal of course is making sure that the RGL staff themselves are properly using the forums. Without them this platform becomes completely neutered and pointless as this is an RGL platform and anyone that comes on here has the expectation that they have a voice and are being listened to by staff.
All in all I am very happy that things are heading a positive direction, and hopefully we can continue to grow and can really start to do more interesting and positive things for this community.
TL;DR: I view myself and these forums as an Enabler. It cant do anything without you guys <3
One of the goals of Engineer.tf is to be able to provide adequate resources for aspiring engineer mains to improve. To assist in that function we have created a page on the website that allows you to view, search for, and download STV demos from official Invite RGL Highlander matches. This is a valuable resource that allows mentees to watch and learn how the best play at the highest level of Highlander. Because these are STV demos, anyone can benefit from this resource, even if you don’t play engineer.
you can view our STV Archive on our website at https://engineer.tf/demos.php
@starcatfish kk. cus truth be told, you guys are not suppose to have access to that yet. whoops
If you are going to post, please don’t post stuff that you don’t actually mean or is not relevant towards these kinds of threads. I don’t appreciate it nor does anyone else.
This goes to everyone. Thanks.
I don’t have an argument against either of the things you have brought up. Thus, I am enabling the downvote system for everyone as of now. there are some requirements and limits to the downvotes to help prevent abuse, which overall I think will solve any other issues I may have.
I am just going to state my opinion, although I do understand wanting to experience maps you haven’t played before.
bad maps are no longer played for good reasons. I would rather us not waste time and resources re-learning lessons we have already learned years ago.
new cascade should be tested because its new and has an active developer willing to work with us. we can find new issues and fix them, and add it into the rotation this season.
None of the other maps will be added back in. because you guys will play them, re-experience the same things as its the same map, and we will repeat this process again in a year.
No, 5cp and HL isnt fun and will never be fun due to the gamemode’s innate issues with the format. 6’s works with 5cp because 6’s was designed around that gamemode. Vanguard was made with HL in mind iirc and we played it a total of 3 times in UGC(?)
ramjam is too big of a map for koth and while yes, we haven’t played it since UGC, the issues that were presented to the map developer were ignored and was not fixed. Also don’t use UGC as an example for anything good.
borneo is a very long map. When your best pick as spy defending last is to sap the teleporter, its a bad map. when your engineer on offence runs full time EE for ez teles, its a bad map. Its the anthesis of vigil with cap times of 10 minutes not being bad.
Anyone remember badwater_pro? I think we are on version 20 of that map.
anyone remember barnblitz_pro???
Again, I understand you guys wanting to experience those maps that you haven’t before, but do them in your in-house pug groups instead.

These threads are here as a reference to previous discussions concerning Advanced and Swiss/RR.
RGL does have rules against players who are laggy/teleporting around, causing the game to be unfair/unplayable. However you need to remember that high ping isnt an advantage, yes you can get shot from around corners since they on their screen you are still there, but it works the other way as well. You can kill them before they even have time to react, because you are not even on their screen yet.
High ping is not the issue.
Also having ping limits is completely unenforceable as ping within locations with poor connection can fluctuate. One day it can be below 150, another above. Not to mention depending on location. I get ~80 ping to LA, ~100 to Dallas, and ~130 to chicago.
Hi this is Mothership. Team “In Da Hoop” (Team name is a work in progress) is looking for skilled and dedicated players for HL season 9!
We are trying to make a mature team with a good atmosphere. We do team map reviews, demo reviews, and of course scrims every week. In addition we will be having an optional non-tf2 related game night every week to take off the edge. Don’t let the fun aspects fool you though, as we are competitive tryhards in nature and will try our best to constantly seek personal improvement. Our hope is to not be a monkey brained team.
Our current focus for classes are subs

I Don’t see anything wrong with the forums? everything appears to be working correctly.

We have pushed an update to the Engineer.tf STV archive. You are now able to sort/organize the demos via the types using the arrows at the top of the categories. Additionally, we have started including the link to the Logs.tf page for that match. We have also added pages to the demos archive, so you no longer have infinite scroll. Lastly, we are now also including the 6’s demos into our archive. Since we are geared towards engineers, we have split the archive into two pages. One has only Highlander STVs, while the other will contain both 6s and HL STVs.
@Alto Ask and you shall recieve. via windows paint.
and yes, the TL;DR: Swiss is bad.
the two teams who had the hardest schedule were both in the bottom 3.
@firepow said in Mainstreaming RGL:
- Developing the pug site.
- Promoting RGL through advertising and outreach
- Working with the video team to churn out new content
Those are all completely different departments within RGL. And not a singular person should have all those responsibilities.
The honest truth is the best thing anyone can do to promote active change is to volunteer for those teams/positions.
@Bliztank Hard to have a forum war when its such a laughable idea.
EDIT: I figured that if I am going to respond to the thread, I might as well actually respond to the thread.
The issues with 5cp are different for both sixes and HL. Sixes was built upon 5cp as it’s core gamemode and the issues it has with stalemates in my opinion are fundamentally different.
Stalemates in sixes mostly revolves around the player limits and how essential each of those players are. Hence why having a boring SvS or single sack waves are the norm. You are only ever able to lose one person, if you lose two, you lose the point. Hence why the new b4nny config exists, the timer exists as a means to force teams to make a move and not sit around waiting for the perfect advantage that you would lose the game/round to otherwise.
Highlander’s stalemates are induced not from teams lack of a willingness to push, but rather the team compositions themselves. You run a perma engineer, heavy, pyro, and sniper, all are great at denying space, angles, and pushes all in one go. This significantly slows the game down and, unlike with sixes, you could lose 1/3 of your team and still be able to hold the point. 1/3 of your team could just be your scout, spy, heavy and you are still going to be able to hold gullywash mid no problem at all.
To conclude, I think the b4nny config would help, but not enough to actually solve the issues with 5cp and HL. I would much rather we throw maps into the map cup that have active devs and have an actual chance of being played.
