I admittedly only read some of this thread because you fuckers type a lot (and I can’t believe I’m saying this for the 2nd time in my life), but I agree with spu. If you ban scorch, I’m never wearing darwins again anyways, even if pyros go fulltime det. I think most snipers would follow suit, though idk, I could be wrong. I’m just saying there’s no real reason to ban darwins at that point if you want to keep the whitelist as full as possible. If you don’t care about the whitelist being as full as possible, then by all means.
tl;dr: The only way banning darwins will have a large effect on the game for snipers is if scorch isn’t banned, not that I’d advocate for that.
On the (likely) chance that my friend team is dead next season, I would like to join a team that is try-harding and either:
- Snipe in invite
- Snipe in advanced (if allowed)
- Continue getting experience on spy or engineer in advanced
- Get experience on pyro or med on a team I know will perform at least decently in advanced
Sniper > Spy > Engineer > Pyro > Medic
Let it be known that I no longer have anywhere near the time I was putting into this game before S6, and I don’t expect to find a team in invite that I’d want to join. But hey, it’s possible. Also, I don’t want to be on a team with a bunch of egos, I’d rather play with people who aren’t up their own asses and are trying to improve.
Most recent relevant stuff:
- S4 - Advanced - marker and e-boy - 1st (sniper)
- S5 - Invite - Turtle Beach Audio - 4th (sniper)
- S6 - Invite - Impostors - 4th (sub sniper)
This season I’m playing spy in main, and I’d like to think I’m doing well. I’ve also messed around with engineer and pyro in advanced before this season, but ultimately haven’t played a season on either of them before. Add me on steam if you are looking for tryouts.
Is there a complaint department for this one too?
Less people would be crouch peeking right now if this thread didn’t exist. Not a condemnation of the thread or discussion per se, but just a bit of irony.
I found places to experiment with crouch peeking on ashville and have already decided that almost all of them are doodoo in almost all situations. Though if a sniper is consistently and predictably slow peeking shutter on mids…
I can see the mass complaints already, but honestly you’re not wrong. The experimental cups usually have the feel of “Who cares? It’s just the exp cup”.
Hope it delivers well for all game modes. It’s kind of required to have somewhere reliable to practice if the scene is going to grow.
Personally super excited for something like this for highlander, where it (hopefully) won’t be immediately monopolized by people aiming to kill the game they’ve already sunk thousands of hours into…
Last would need to be reworked, since it’s sniper heaven. Also for some reason, if you shoot the wrap assassin anywhere on the map it breaks in your face, so that’s a fun bug.
I think the reason most people liked it (if they did) was because it was generally a quick payload map, which you don’t see too much of aside from vigil.
Unfortunately the map maker doesn’t want to change anything for millstone to make it a staple map in highlander, so we’ll probably never have it played again.
Edit: I have no idea if it’s acceptable for someone to make a new version derivative of valve’s since someone already did. If someone was willing to do that, I’m fairly certain it’d be tested out and given feedback by the community. Or at least I’d be interested in getting it in rotation.
Always my first choice on egg if I’m leading a team. Next level brain. Honestly, he has worked way harder than I have at making our team successful this season, and he was amazing when we played on PYP together as well – also just a great personality to have around the team. Friendly, open-minded, always innovating or improving play somehow. For someone who plays a class that generally doesn’t have impact, he definitely has made a big impact every season we’ve played together.
I think it’s good to have continuous improvement in things if we’re trying to grow the scene. These forums look a lot more clean than the other forums imo.

Usually one of the teams will either buy their own server to host, or one of the teams can rent one from na.serveme.tf.
Even if you don’t know how to use serveme, it’s quite simple and intuitive to get the server, provided there are some available for use. If you run into issues getting servers when you need them, you can buy premium on serveme (it’s a very cheap per-month payment that you can cancel when the season is over), in which case you’ll almost never have issues getting a server.
As far as setting up the server properly and using commands, etc. someone else would probably be better at explaining than I am. But first you have to put in the rcon info in console (don’t give this to anyone you don’t trust, the other team doesn’t need it either), and then you can type things in console like:
rcon changelevel [map name]
rcon mp_winlimit [number]
rcon exec [name of config required]
It’s the medic mains vs the sniper mains who will win
I haven’t fully read through this thread, but someone mentioned that there are no gameplay changes. However, cp_steel is well known for its many quirks that involve weird clippings and wall surfs that open up the map to a lot more movement options. Anything that affects clipping, particularly on this map, can be a big deal. That sniper window on B being filled in is a big change. Moving props around is a big deal. “Small changes” can change the dynamic of a point, cut off or add routes around the map for a subset of classes, or alter sightlines which seriously affects gameplay.
Maybe these changes are justified, or maybe they aren’t; but I’m not a fan of passing it off as some small non-gameplay affecting, minor bug fix “refresh” update.
Maybe I’m out of the loop, but who in invite outside of this thread is even aware that cp_steel got changed?
@Pain-Seer Yeah, the B Spawn Room change (among other changes in the map) was approved by the original cp_steel map developer.
To be honest, my only complaint is kinda implicit in this message exchange, which is just getting rid of hiding spots for spy for no apparent reason. I mean overall, whatever I guess. I can see the appeal to the walls in the hallway from Lobby to D, for example, because of issues with stickies going inside the geometry (I’m taking someone’s word for that, I never actually tested it)…
but if there’s not a bug to fix or an actual game play issue being addressed in the first B spawn other than “I can’t operate in a 3D environment while nobody is shooting at me in pregame”, that’s when I get a bit cynical.
But like I said, it’s whatever overall. Not a big complaint.
I can see a reasoning behind all of the changes except for the initial defense spawn going into B. Not that it really matters, but was there a reason to change that that I’m not seeing?
Edit: Also thanks for getting rid of barrels.
super cool dude
if the reason is because of Someone selling spots, then why not just punish the dude selling spots and make it clear that behavior isnt allowed. why must i/my team be punished for some dude tryna cop 20 dollars worth of tf2 items from main players who want to brag about their undeserved invite badge
While I don’t have strong opinions personally on this, I can give you an answer to this question if you’re genuinely looking for one.
The reason is that it’s hard to prove when someone does this, unless they outright admit it. And then admins will get evidence for someone doing it, ban the leader of an invite team when they inevitably find out right before playoffs (when the leader will then vehemently deny it day-in and day-out, farting everywhere with all of their friends posting #freewhoever hashtags on the forums), and everyone will be pissy for the next 2 seasons until they find something else to complain about.
I don’t see it as a huge issue either way, personally. Everyone generally accepts ringers in higher divs, and lower divs have the ‘free first ringer’ rule. If you aren’t missing half of your team for a match, you should be good.
Didn’t 18 slots cause invite teams to sell roster rider spots to lower level players?
Someone good please play engie holy fuck I don’t want to be in engie jail again im begging you
From a standpoint of fairness (imo), it doesn’t make sense to me that two teams could get through playoffs, each only losing one match, and one of them is crowned 1st place because they lost earlier in the playoffs bracket, even if 1st seed had an advantage in the match they lost.
I see the argument for the other side in terms of viewership for streams, etc, but if I was 1st seed and then lost in grand finals and didn’t get the opportunity of the bracket reset, I’d feel pretty cheated.
Especially since I’ve seen ringer situations fuck over highlander teams, since the culture is to accept anyone anytime, even if they’re way better than the main
