Hello RGL Community,
Today I would like to talk about the potential that is being wasted on the upcoming RGL Experimental Map Cup. I feel currently that the maps being played aren’t fit for an “experimental” Map Cup. Borneo has been played in RGL season 1 and season 2. Ramjam has been played in UGC season 24 iirc. I think Cascade is the only one that deserves to stay as it has had a major update that has changed it. Borneo has never been updated since it was released as an official map, and Ramjam’s developer is stubborn to update it for competitive.
The first map cup featured 1 map that has never been played in a Highlander setting as far as I know, and that map is Synthetic. Synthetic has been featured in every RGL experimental map cup since the first one except for this upcoming cup.
I’m not going to talk about every map that was featured in RGL experimental map cups, but If you would like to see the previous RGL map pool, here it is: https://rgl.gg/Public/Articles/ArticlesList.aspx
I have been playing RGL Experimental Map Pugs for a while now, and I think they were much better suited for a cup like this. They have never been played before in a map cup, and I’m baffled at the decision to feature maps that have been already played in a season of competitive Highlander with no major updates (except for Cascade.)
pl_midwest is a great example of a map that should be in the cup, because it is being updated pretty much every week, and it hasn’t been in a experimental map cup. koth_berryville as well would be a good addition to the map cup instead of Borneo or Ramjam for the same reasons as pl_midwest - It’s being updated and hasn’t been played already. I could go on and name more maps that should be in the map cup, but you can already look at the RGL Discord in the pug information channel for more maps that could’ve been played in the cup.
Point being, there shouldn’t be maps in an a experimental map cup have already been played in seasons of Highlander and don’t feature any major updates.
