Mothership Why you think this is a PR move is beyond me. The last time I checked, the RGL forum readers were not waiting en masse to move to UGC after one well-worded forum post. I write this because I care about the game, not the league. UGC had some absolute dog shit administration a few seasons back, but that doesn’t change the fact that RGL has some absolute dog shit administration now. Who gives a shit what UGC did 5 seasons ago when RGL is doing it right now. Whenever a league does dogshit things, I will call them out, whether it’s RGL, UGC, ETF2L, or whoever else it is. It is painful to see players endure this crap season after season, and the fact I can’t comment on it without you twisting my words and misconstruing my intentions just reinforces what other people in this thread have already pointed out. It should be as simple as a poll question - Do you want RR or Swiss for Advanced - and the fact that this has not happened, after season upon season of outcry, shows the unwillingness of certain RGL staff to listen to the most important members of the community - their own players.

RE: DR spy medigun pickup
Exploit might have been the wrong term to use. This is clearly not an intended game mechanic and is more so just the consequence of how the game engine interacts with spy weapons and uber. I can say with 99% certainty that Valve did not intentionally add this into the game to create a situation where teams can fake ubers. TF2 is not balanced for the competitive scene, but for the pub scene, so just because you can do something in the game does not mean you should be able to from a competitive perspective. If the ability to fake ubers (beyond just voice commands that indicate you are fully charged) was something that was already part of the game, this would not be so bad, but the truth of the matter is that, barring certain updates decades ago, once an uber has been visually triggered, there is no way to end it and retain large amounts of the charge. There is really no way to know whether or not a team is doing this. Your spy can’t check to see if their spy is running DR, and is a team supposed to assume that everytime they kill the enemy spy disguised as a med that every uber is a fake one? Pushes like swift 2nd really take place quite quickly, too quickly for any team to rationally determine whether or not the ubered phlog pyro or demo isn’t actually ubered. There is no skill needed to abuse this game mechanic and there is also no real counterplay other than waiting, but being able to fake ubers is not a mechanic in the game, so there is 0 established counterplay/convential wisdom about that. I doubt this will be a widely used/abused mechanic, but the point stands.

RE: Bring back 5cp to hl
Look how common it is for 6s team to park the bus on any given 5cp map. Now imagine that with a 450hp heavy, level 3 gun, and a pyro. For the top level of play, you could probably see some really interesting starts to break the stalemates (or even to prevent them entirely) but I feel at lower levels of play, it will devolve into one team ubers in to destroy the gun, the other team ubers them back, and the process continues until one team manages to get a lucky spy pick or something. Look how stalemate-y steel is, with long drawn-out fights for B control or wishbone. 5cp is basically steel without the ability to create pressure from different points. It will be boring to play, and boring to watch.

RE: Highlander Match Point System
More human labor hours have gone into this thread than most doctorate theses. Who gives a shit about the merits of W/L or MP, just ask the community with a poll and adjust accordingly. “But polls aren’t the end-all-be-all of the league and the players can be wrong”. Shut the fuck up. You are not a Professor of Team Fortress Two. You are not an expert. If the players want W/L, give them W/L. If they want MP, give them MP. Who gives a shit if one is mathematically less likely to cause the shitter team to actually make it to playoffs off of a technicality. Your job as a league admin is to understand how your player base wants to play the game and to conform to that, not to create a rigid structure of how you think the game should be played and force the player base to conform to your system.

RE: Bring back 5cp to hl
@Chocc the problem is you will get to a point where teams choose to just park the bus, not actually push up and make things interesting. At least with steel you’re supposed to defend, on 5cp, you’re not really supposed to just park the bus and defend to win. Remember that there are other divs beyond advanced and invite, and IMO teams in lower divs will struggle to break through the turtle setups which will be really boring for them as they try and push last for 30 minutes. It is less noticeable on steel because you can create pressure from other points on the map, so a team can’t just stack 9 people on B, whereas here you can stack your whole team on one site.

Totally a feature that has no home in competitive TF2. I imagine this will get considered an exploit and will be subsequently banned from use.

RE: round robin advanced
@JohhnyFromCali I could write a page about how wrong you are, but there would be no point as it’s clear you are not here to contribute anything of value. It is ruinous that season after season, advanced players complain about swiss, and yet, every season they are faced with the same swiss bracket they despise so much. It is ironic to call out another league for failing to address its issues in a thread about how another league is acting in tandem.
The league is not patriarchal. Stop treating the players like children who don’t know what they want. Listen to them, and adapt accordingly. If players vote for swiss, keep it swiss. If the players vote for rr, make it rr. The fact this is still being debated is shocking. I don’t know the inner-workings of the RGL staff cesspool, but if micah is right, and willmatic is the reason behind this, you should honestly resign. Your job is to listen to the community - and right now, it seems like the voices are falling on deaf, empty-headed ears.

To be fair, UGC was being consistent since they did not care about doing anything else well either.
The level of irony in this post is palpable.
