RE: the same thread, new season, BUT WITH A TWIST
@Adam To continue off what @Micahlele said; I am not a HL admin or mod. I do not have any say in what they do. The only power I have exists within these forums as an RGL platform.

RE: round robin advanced
Since it has been brought up a few times, and I believe is also one of the original points and reasons for the creation of this thread:
The goal of these forums exist for me in the form of the Mission Statement that you can find on the rules tab.
The idea with the forums is to create an open space where constructive conversations, discussions, feedback, and ideas can be shared.
My hope is that these forums become the main platform for people to publicly discuss anything they feel is important. Regardless if those ideas are sound.
Part of that is encouraging users to make threads like these on the forums because posting things in the discord is pointless when it gets buried a few hours later and to be quite frank, the admins basically never see them because of it.
I am also trying to ensure that these forums do not turn into an echo chamber like many private discords which are there to only push a narrative.
My last main goal of course is making sure that the RGL staff themselves are properly using the forums. Without them this platform becomes completely neutered and pointless as this is an RGL platform and anyone that comes on here has the expectation that they have a voice and are being listened to by staff.
All in all I am very happy that things are heading a positive direction, and hopefully we can continue to grow and can really start to do more interesting and positive things for this community.
TL;DR: I view myself and these forums as an Enabler. It cant do anything without you guys

These are important things which I value, and apart of the reason these forums exist. In that I appreciate your feedback and willing to speak on it.
I personally can’t speak to any of the feedback given towards the cup. As far as I understand, there was only two RGL admins involved, of which I was neither.
But what I can speak to is things that I have been doing to which I have great hope to the future of RGL. I have recently stepped up to become RGL’s new Marketing Director and have been spending the past month on improving our internal coordination, communication, and planning. You can see some of the work I have done be reflected in the promotions we have been doing on our casts including the RGL Boat promotion involving the RGL Head Admins. I also have a ton of plans that should reach fruition within the next six months, including something exciting for our Invite teams. We have also seen some exponential growth in regards to our partnerships with different organizations which I hope will Increase growth in RGL as a whole.
I won’t promise that you guys will be seeing any of the work I do publicly, nor soon due to the timescales I am currently working at, but I am hopeful towards the impact I can make internally for the league.

RE: The RGL Expiremental Map Cup is Being Wasted.
I am just going to state my opinion, although I do understand wanting to experience maps you haven’t played before.
bad maps are no longer played for good reasons. I would rather us not waste time and resources re-learning lessons we have already learned years ago.
new cascade should be tested because its new and has an active developer willing to work with us. we can find new issues and fix them, and add it into the rotation this season.
None of the other maps will be added back in. because you guys will play them, re-experience the same things as its the same map, and we will repeat this process again in a year.
No, 5cp and HL isnt fun and will never be fun due to the gamemode’s innate issues with the format. 6’s works with 5cp because 6’s was designed around that gamemode. Vanguard was made with HL in mind iirc and we played it a total of 3 times in UGC(?)
ramjam is too big of a map for koth and while yes, we haven’t played it since UGC, the issues that were presented to the map developer were ignored and was not fixed. Also don’t use UGC as an example for anything good.
borneo is a very long map. When your best pick as spy defending last is to sap the teleporter, its a bad map. when your engineer on offence runs full time EE for ez teles, its a bad map. Its the anthesis of vigil with cap times of 10 minutes not being bad.
Millstone.
Anyone remember badwater_pro? I think we are on version 20 of that map.
anyone remember barnblitz_pro???
Again, I understand you guys wanting to experience those maps that you haven’t before, but do them in your in-house pug groups instead.

RE: Class restrictions for players with excessive ping (or bad internet?)
RGL does have rules against players who are laggy/teleporting around, causing the game to be unfair/unplayable. However you need to remember that high ping isnt an advantage, yes you can get shot from around corners since they on their screen you are still there, but it works the other way as well. You can kill them before they even have time to react, because you are not even on their screen yet.
High ping is not the issue.
Also having ping limits is completely unenforceable as ping within locations with poor connection can fluctuate. One day it can be below 150, another above. Not to mention depending on location. I get ~80 ping to LA, ~100 to Dallas, and ~130 to chicago.

Unlocked 6s Winter Experimental Cup!
SFM by MetalCloud, Editing by RaosRegister Now for the Winter Experimental 6s Cup!
After a lot of preparation, we’re happy to announce our latest 6s format cup!
The RGL Winter Experimental 6s Cup will be free to play and will take place on January 13th and 14th!
This event will give players a chance to try the 6s format with several traditionally banned weapons unlocked - The Cow Mangler, Soda Pop!, Bonk!, BASE Jumper, Sydney Sleeper, Rescue Ranger, and Diamondback. These weapons have shown high interest from players in being unbanned in postseason surveys coming close to 50% support to unlock. We expect this event will allow players to experience the impact of these weapons on the game and give a fresh perspective going forward.
The cup will run for two days in a double round-robin format with 4-team pods sorted by traditional 6s divisions (NC, AM, IM, etc). Teams in each pod will play every other team twice, never on the same map!
To encourage teams to experiment with the unlocked items, we will be providing prizes to players who submit clips involving the use of one of the seven restricted weapons during the cup that will be compiled into a highlight video. Winners from each division will be chosen by the RGL staff with players submitting the winning clips receiving two Mannco Crate Keys as a prize.
Map Pool and Schedule
The map pool will have a different map for each Group Stage round. The maps will be cp_snakewater, cp sunshine, and koth_Product. There will be NO Playoffs scheduled.
Match schedules for all divisions will be released on Jan 12th, allowing teams to schedule matches at their convenience, However, default times will be set if teams cannot agree on alternate times. The top team at the end of all 6 matches will win their group with a tie-breaker match scheduled in the event of a tie at the top of the standings.
ALL MATCHES MUST BE PLAYED before January 14th at 11:59 EST.
The default schedule* will be as follows, (all times EST):
Sign-ups end: January 7th
Saturday, January 13th - Day 1- Group Stage Round 1: 14:00 EST - cp_snakewater
- Group Stage Round 2: 15:30 EST - koth_product
- Group Stage Round 3: 17:00 EST - cp_sunshine
Sunday, January 14th - Day 2
- Group Stage Round 4: 14:00 EST - cp_snakewater
- Group Stage Round 5: 15:30 EST - koth_product
- Group Stage Round 6: 17;00 EST - cp_sunshine
*If both teams are ready before the scheduled start time, matches are encouraged to be played early. However, if teams do not want to play beforehand games will be played at default time. All matches must be played before Sunday, January 14th 11:59 EST. If a tiebreaker match must be played the players will have until Monday 10:00 EST to play that tiebreaker.
Configs and Map Versions
Control Point (5CP): Each 5CP map has a map timer limit of 30 minutes* and a round timer of 4 minutes. There are no halftimes played, instead matches using the 5CP Progressive Config (rgl_6s_5cp_match_pro.cfg) are continuous until a winner is declared.
Configs:
- The rgl_6s_5cp_match_pro.cfg config will be used for cp_snakewater, and cp_sunshine
- The rgl_6s_koth_match_pro.cfg config will be used for koth_product
After executing the format config, a rgl_6s_5cp_cups.cfg must be executed to unlock the typically restricted weapons. This config must be executed AFTER the proper game type config.
The map versions being used are:
- cp_snakewater_final1 (stock)
- koth_product_final
- cp_sunshine (stock)
FAQ
What servers should we use?
All Serveme servers should already have the maps uploaded to them; however, it is highly recommended to download the Product from the link above before connecting to reduce connect time, delays, or other issues for those matches.QueeQuey from the video team has a video on this that you can watch here (note Qixalite is no longer an option) check it out here.
How do I exec configs / change maps?
All Serveme servers should already have the configs uploaded to them. But if you’re reserving a server and keeping it for more than one match, all you need to do is get the RCON (shown on your booking page), enter that into your console, and then type “rcon changelevel (insert map)”. To change from cp_gullywash to cp_snakewater it would be “rcon changelevel cp_snakewater_final1”.Changing config is similar. Instead of “changelevel” you would type “exec”. So if you change your map from Snakewater to Product, you would enter “rcon exec rgl_6s_koth_match_pro.cfg” into the console.
The above video also shows this in action here.
What region/divs is this open to?
The cup is open to the NA region and open to all divs. Each division will be separated into sub-divisions.The placements of teams will be guided by placements of teams in the current season of RGL (if rostered). Teams may be shifted around depending on the number of sign-ups (e.g. a top IM team may be placed in Main).
Looking for a team?
You can join our Discord and post in the #lft channel for “cup” and specify that you are looking to join a 6s team. If you already have a team (or group of friends to form one), you can post in the #lfp channel for “cup” and specify the players you are looking to pick up.An example for an lft post would be: “lft NC/YT Scout or Medic for the 6s cup”.
An example of an lfp post would be: “lfp NC/YT Scout and Demo for 6s cup, we have 2 soldiers, a scout, and a medic”Terms that you may want to know:
- “Main” - Can refer to the division of “Main” or being a “Main player” aka the person who is a default player/starter. You can look at the typical LFT/LFP post to see typical formatting to get an idea of what people are looking for. Typically players don’t add “Main” if they are looking for a team and instead leave it blank. As an example, “lft Main Demo” would be someone who’s looking to play Demo as a starter in the Main division.
- “Sub” - Is someone who fills in when another player cannot make a match.
We highly recommend rostering subs for your team that way you don’t have to forfeit or look for a ringer in case of internet issues/power outages etc. An example of a sub post would be “lfp AM Demo sub”.
How do I record demos?
You can use P-Rec or manually record demos by entering “record (insert demo name)” in the console when you want to start recording and then entering “stop” in the console when you want to stop recording. The video team has made a short guide that you can check out here.

fuzze The point is to stop supporting cups you don’t want. If literally no one signs up for a nr6’s cup, it becomes difficult to justify running them.

RE: Thoughts on RGL's Future (by me :D)
I normally do not respond to these types of posts, but after being bored while raking leaves, I put some thought into a response I might like to leave. so on that note…
I think the main issues here are the way things are being framed and how this type of discussion is being brought about.
To start off, let me fix the notion of “Admins/mods have to appear unified”. To be frank, admins/mods should not appear unified, but actual be unified in cooperation towards decisions and goals made. Its not about agreeing with every decision every other admin makes, but rather actively putting effort into making those decisions into better one. To phrase things another way, just like how spiderman has his own “great power comes great responsibility” mantra, it also works the other way around. With great responsibility comes great power. If staff are unwilling to speak up with other staff and help to provide an appropriate solution, then they have no right to speak out against anything once everything is said and done.
If you have the responsibility to do something, you in turn have the power to do something about it. Failure to utilize that power responsibility will cause you to forfeit that power and responsibility.
It is unbecoming of an RGL staff member to not actively use their role to improve the scene and league directly through their own position, and instead undermine everyone by complaining to outside members of the league in an attempt to accomplish something they are literally in the position to resolve.
I also find it very concerning in general that you are claiming to speak on behalf of RGL Staff members.
To move on to the framing of your concerns, I can understand that there are concerns, but you have a total of 4 issues only. Its hardly fair to call any cup with only 4 issues, which half of which does not heavily affect the cup at all, any of the terms you used.
- Lack of Youtuber Support
- single combined div
- payload point values
- non-updated nr6’s config
(You could honestly just roll the Youtuber support and the single combined div complaints into one as one can be a direct causation for the other. )
So with that in mind, is there a reason you are using words like:
he handling of the cup was a disaster.
These major oversights from RGL made the cup less fun and less fair for anyone who did sign up.
RGL comes off as disorganized and unapproachable.
Not to discount your words, but if we are to believe what camp3r said:
This Cup was a success as near 100 * brand new* players got to have an experience that their direct feedback tells us was a success. Not to mention the several dozen others that found teams in AM and higher that you are completely discounting as even participated.
Then it appears that the cup achieved the goal it was designed to accomplish. It reached brand new players, introduced them to competitive tf2, they had fun, and are actively attempting to join teams. That fact in of itself, disproved the notion that the cup was less fun, a disaster, or makes RGL look disorganized or unapproachable.
Its hard for me to be critical of camp3r for reacting the way he did simply because of the way you framed your feedback. I can agree with you on some of your points, but it makes me really hard to do so when its being framed the way it is.
I will however try to contribute to a solution to all these NR6’s complaining that I have gotten tired of seeing.
Stop playing the gamemode if you do not like it.
I have gotten tired of people complaining about a gamemode they don’t like, yet continue to play in cups that use it. Quite frankly, NR6’s is only used now days for cups specially designed for new players due to it being both valve comp and the halfway point between casual and real competitive gamemodes.
Finally, back to the OP, I would like to see your ideas and solutions you are brainstormed that would help resolve or improve these issues beyond “Don’t do them”.

RE: Scrim Scheduling; Can it get any better?
To be frank, the LFS forum is not solely meant for finding regular scrim partners, however the reality is that no one else uses it for anything else. The discord is infinitely better for finding last minute scrim partners when you get baited.
As far as the common knowledge stuff goes, honestly a lot of that could be solved through team mentors. Someone there to specifically help the team to learn things, instead of specific class mentors. I do not know if there is a program for that, as I stopped following those types of productions a long time ago. Honestly, It might be good as a video series for the RGL video team. QueeQuey cough cough

RE: Scrim Scheduling; Can it get any better?
As the forum guy, I can confirm that we will not be changing how the forum functions in regards to scrims. Forums are for long form discussions, and anyone that posts LFS to the forums should be doing so before the start of the season to help find scrim partners. It is also clearly visible on the main page of the forums.
as far as the other ideas, one think I think that is vitally missing from your post is the fact that scrims are something that are heavily determined by communication between team leaders. Most teams develop regular scrim partners at the start of the season and make them apart of their regular schedule.
There is nothing that RGL can really do to facilitate this beyond a team leader forum or discord channel which iirc was already tried in the past.
While I 100% understand that being a team leader is a very difficult job, and being able to find scrims are also difficult, you are looking for a catch all solution that does not actually do anything to make things easier in the long run.
