tbh, the best way to get stable framerates is to use no hats plus the particle remover mod. It also helps with the mental game as everyone looks exactly the same, so you dont get distracted by stupid banana hats.

Mothership arent particle modifications not possible on sv_pure 2 even with preloading?

@Jas It works for me without preloading. Prob cus its not modifying the particles themselves.

I do genuinely like most hats, and in some cases it’s nice to be able to quickly tell a teammate even in shitty lighting (though obviously this is not at all something that can be relied on). I don’t tend to get actively distracted by hats, though; the worst case scenario is the bad paints that obscure team color, and there isn’t a mod to just get rid of paints (let alone just get rid of problematic paints).

Mothership It sounds like the particle remover mod necessarily comes bundled with nohats and doesn’t stand alone?

@scaredy-bat the one I use is a standalone.

Mothership interesting, i used to use this but it never worked on comp servers, even with preloading. i dont suppose you know why this is? i would love to get those working in comp.

That particular particle limitation mod should not work on sv_pure 2 unless something has changed recently, even with preloading. From my previous testing the game treats removing particles the same as modifying them (through the method that these mods use, different from how no hats does it or the no explosion smoke scripts) and the people in the tftv thread even comment on how it does not work on sv_pure 2.

On topic though no hats is amazing even if i only update it once or twice before letting other people take over lol.

Yeh I use no hats. Just makes the game feel more consistent except for the occasional invis pyro head lol.

@spring-rolls said in no hat mod:

hmm…maybe I think its working because people are just not wearing unusuals? I’ll test this theory out this weekend.

nohats turned off a few unusuals for me. couldn’t tell you which ones they were, but a few were definitely just not there

I use no hats simply because I need to squeeze out every single fps that I can.

Yea no hats removes some unusuals on some hats and I could never figure out why lol, think some hat models just handle effects differently.

@spring-rolls What I had heard was that it removes unusual effects dating from before a certain cutoff.
