PSA for teams trying to play Invite and Challenger

I am no longer an RGL admin so nothing I say is official
With new Highlander Head Admin WiLLmaTiC’s recent RGL article releasing, they gave a lot of info for various things such as a cup, staff openings, and config changes. However in the small print in Season 9 dates, they mention the following:
- Challenger and Invite qualifiers: May 29th and May 30th
- Invite fees due: June 7th (An extension will be provided for qualifier teams)
I think it’s safe to assume that both Invite and Challenger will have a limit of 8 teams in the division. Therefore if you believe your team to be on the lower end of either division, prepare to possibly be included in qualifiers.
If you believe your team to be guaranteed placement in either Challenger or Advanced, prepare to possibly be in qualifiers for the above divisions.From past experiences, qualifiers have been 4 teams; round-robin; 3 matches. The maps being product, upward, and a bo1 pick/ban from the map pool. I would say to consider that as a possible outcome for this upcoming qualifier, although I have no clue what the Admins are actually planning–so don’t take that too much to heart.
Also on a completely different note:
Assuming nothing changes due to the map cup, I expect the regular map pool alternating of cascade and lakeside every other season. Since lakeside was just played, I suspect koth_cascade_rc1a to be played this upcoming season instead of lakeside–unless there’s a curveball thrown at us by the admins.If you’re interested in checking the teams that plan on competing, I made a spreadsheet with currently known teams listed here.
hope any of this helps y’all

Thank you, Constantly!
One of the exp cup maps is the next version of Cascade, v2_b5, so it is possible that this will be the version played instead of rc1a if we put Cascade in.

@scaredy-bat
I think so as well, but I know there have been several objections in the community about that version
One of the complaints I had even was a sightline from your fence to their concreteThough if a meta changes things and people like it, I’m sure they would use the newer version for the upcoming season. I would still recommend scrimming the older version instead of the newer one to be on the safer side

Oh, and fwiw, S8 Adv qualifiers was pick/ban all three matches, just for Historical Context.

This is what I am leaning toward having all the qualifiers be. More info, like map list (but not order), will be in my next article. I’m hoping to have it out after the map cup to discuss the results of the Season 8 survey, how the map cup results are at the time of writing, and a few other topics with HL.

Can we get a season of ramjam please and thank you!

swap out ashville instead of lakeside
product lake cascade
why is it always lakeside that gets rotated out, ash has been in every season of rgl so far
-
@TheS4rr No
-
@perenne Because Lakeside is unpopular and Ashville is less unpopular.
-
iirc, dont the map polls each season say invite overwhelmingly likes lakeside? but the most poll results come from the lower divs. idk why we cant just have our own separate map pool like how 6s has.
i think most invite players would say lakeside is a pretty good map
-
@perenne I guess this season’s poll stats haven’t been released yet, but at least just looking at the Invite playoffs map picks, Ashville got picked twice as many times as Lakeside.
That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s disliked, ofc, just that people didn’t want to play it in playoffs for whatever reason.

Time to rotate out product

Nobody wanted to play against hood/lenny on lake is more of the reason.
