Question about pl_millstone
-
While reading through the previous Borneo post on RGL, millstone came up as a map some people liked. So not being a part of UGC or any map tests, what needs to be changed? (I know the snow needs to go but what else), and why doesn’t someone make a pro version? Like pro badwater or even cp_process a community map that got a refresh version.

@H20Gamez UGC played millstone back in the day, and it is essentially a pro version, since the original is a Halloween map.

imo generally having a pro version for any map is problematic since you can’t actually make huge changes to the map without it no longer being a derivative work of the original, and it has copyright issues, etc. doubled if the map isn’t an official Valve map like Viaduct.
why not just play new maps that are being actively developed?

Last would need to be reworked, since it’s sniper heaven. Also for some reason, if you shoot the wrap assassin anywhere on the map it breaks in your face, so that’s a fun bug.
I think the reason most people liked it (if they did) was because it was generally a quick payload map, which you don’t see too much of aside from vigil.
Unfortunately the map maker doesn’t want to change anything for millstone to make it a staple map in highlander, so we’ll probably never have it played again.
Edit: I have no idea if it’s acceptable for someone to make a new version derivative of valve’s since someone already did. If someone was willing to do that, I’m fairly certain it’d be tested out and given feedback by the community. Or at least I’d be interested in getting it in rotation.

This is typical of older maps especially which were created before the WA change to have the ball do AOE.

it’s still the millstone creator’s original work, whether or not valve owns the rights to the derivative, and both parties would have to at least tacitly approve of a new version
